"Earthquake!!! No--Worse! LAWNMOWER!"

I experienced my first earthquake yesterday evening. It was quite minor--only a 4.4, and its epicenter was well North of San Francisco. But I felt it! It went something like this:

I was in the kitchen, just about to start eating my dinner (fried shrimp). My housemate Scott says, from his room, "Hey... is that an earthquake?"

I paused but didn't feel much.

Scott asked, "Are you guys shaking anything in there?"

We said we were not.

Scott said, "Yeah. It's definitely an earthquake."

And then after a few seconds of staying still, I could feel it. It was just a deep rumbling, kind of like when you feel a building swaying slightly. I looked around and could see some kitchen items shaking a bit. The pans rattled slightly on the rack. The worst thing that happened? A half-roll of paper towels standing on its end almost toppled over! SO DANGEROUS!

Yeah, it was pretty much the same way when I experienced my first earthquake in Laguna Hills. A few seconds of rumbling and that was it. I think a picture fell off my dresser, and that was it. Now I can say I've survived an earthquake, but I'll stay away from the 9-pointers, thanks.

Same for my first earthquake in Irvine. Freakin' Orange County!

Oh, and David....what the hell was with the random Snakes on a Plane advertisement coming from your cell phone?

Oh man....I can't believe I didn't get the movie reference in your title right away. I'm slipping.

The Snakes On A Plane thing is hilarious. You can send a personalized Samuel L. Jackson message to someone.

And yeah. Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. I thought it was awesome when I saw it as a child, and haven't seen it in probably fifteen years, so as far as I know, it is awesome. It is kinda random in connection to this, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I thought of earthquakes.
