I've been bored lately

There was a very pretty sunset tonight (after a really ugly day). Picture is from my backyard. I also twisted my ankle while walking down the porch stairs in back with tripod in hand. That means this summer I'm batting .750 for incurring an injury while taking a picture at sunset. One sliced open toe in Israel, one rolled ankle tonight, and one cut on my foot from a pine cone dropped by a squirrel. Maybe I should just avoid dusk. Or, I can do like they do with movies sometimes, and shoot at dawn, and say that it's dusk.

In other news, I haven't had a whole lot to do lately. All my summer job plans fell through around the same time that I realized I don't really need a summer job. I'm living and eating with parents, and my spending money is coming from graduation gifts.

I've been checking a lot of movies out from my local library (which is free and they have a decent selection--good thing I like classics), and I have Netflix. I now have a sidebar thingy to the right that displays my most recently consumed media. There's also a feed for my most recently listened to MP3s, though that's been there for a while.

Besides that I've been hanging out a lot with the comic shop guys. My friend from high school, Scott Reinbeck, who was on the A-Team of ATV (the elite video production team of my high school's elite video production program), and was a senior when I was a freshman (I kinda idolized all those guys) now owns a comics shop, and there's a regular cast of characters hanging out there. We usually go out for beers and stuff. Sometimes stupid shit gets debated like who would win in a fight between Wolverine and Yoda, sometimes conversations are less nerdy, but it's usually pretty fun.

This weekend was Carrie's birthday, so she and Chris Santoro were in town. Saturday night, we plus Sarah Masters, plus Kevin Counce, plus some other kids, went out. I had some drinks before going out (some of my nice, imported beers from 3000 Imported Beers in South Tampa). Young's Double Chocolate Stout is amazing, by the way. Then we had a goodly number of pitchers while bowling at Oakfield Lanes. Then we went to Ybor City, since Orpheum was having $9 all-you-can-drink, where I had four or five mixed drinks. Status: trashed.

So, obviously not gonna drive home, so I spend the night at Carrie's house, in her guest room. She wakes me up at 9:00am to tell me they're going to church. So, I get up, get dressed, and come out to the living room, then say good morning to her parents while hanging my head in shame. Her parents are very conservative. Carrie says, "Hey David. I told them about how tired you were last night. About how you were so tired, and just fell asleep, so you decided to stay here." I was like, "Uh... yeah. Thanks." It was the most obvious, ridiculous cover-up ever.

Tonight I went with Amanda Lucas and Chris Santoro (he told me to keep linking to him) to Tampa Bay Brewing Company, then we went to Brandon Ale House with the comic shop kids. we have plans for Babe's Pizza tomorrow night.

I realize this must be like the most boring update ever. It's strange; I'm sure some people who read my blog love the political stuff and think the random stuff about my life is very boring, and then some people like hearing about the mundane details of my life and wish I would quit posting all the political crap (Everett).

Oh, and beard: To shave or not to shave? Or to trim?

NO. Never shave. Not until you leave for law school. It will be very symbolic. Leaving behind the wild, uncouth, swarthy man in Tampa in favor of the cultured law school types of D.C. If this were a movie the scene of you shaving could be a very powerful montage.

I think you should shave the beard part and keep the mustache FOR law school. You can be the creepy guy with the 'stache and everyone will know who you are.

Speaking of creepy mustache guys, there is totally one here at Vandy. I don't know his name, but I always know him as the creepy mustache guy. So yeah, I suppose keep the 'stache if you want notoriety of a dubious sort.

Anyway, I shaved today. So, no creepy mustache for me.

I grew a beard. One should definately trim - well, at least people whose facial hair grows unevenly like mine. It is red and blonde and brown. Your extended scruff didn't look bad sir...and I think the ladies have been looking at me more often lately...but perhaps it's because I look rediculous. Or maybe it's just because I make so much money as a grad student...gotta watch out for those gold-diggers.

Yeah, I think I just prefer it as extended scruff. Once it reached full-on beard level, I got tired of it.
