Barzelay.net Up And Running

Okay, so I've got my website www.barzelay.net up and running. It should now be fully operational. LJ kids, check it out if you haven't yet.

For now, I will continue posting all my entries to LJ as well. I'd like to post to both Movable Type (my blogging software) and Livejournal (owned by Movable Type's company). This is annoying to do, however, because the two plugins designed for crossposting really suck.

The first plugin, MTLJ Post, makes my MT installation run so slowly that it takes over half an hour to load my main configuration page. It has to be some error, but I sure don't know what. Before that started happening it seemed to work fine.

LJCrosspost, the other plugin, works pretty well as long as you don't already have things posted to your LJ that you also have on your blog. Since I imported all my LJ entries into my blog (which I definitely wanted to do) it would post a duplicate copy of every entry. There is a script included for syncing old posts, but it works by matching entry Subjects. I rarely used subjects, so that's completely useless to me.

So, for now I am just going to manually post everything to both, which really isn't all that hard, but is annoying. Some time this summer I may write my own plugin for it, but we'll see. Kobayashi uses MTLJ Post and has customized his quite a bit, including features to show in LJ the number of comments currently on an entry in MT. Mine has no such feature yet. To be honest, I'm gonna post pretty much every day, so it would be easier for you guys to just go ahead and start checking www.barzelay.net, in addition to your Friends page (and consider de-listing me as your friend on LJ).

In any case, I'd like feedback on the new site. Every refresh selects a random banner and its stylesheet from the ones I've made. There are currently thirty-three different banners and stylesheets. I will continue adding more regularly. In order for everyone to not have to refresh endlessly to see them (if anyone cared that much anyway), I made a special page that you can get to by clicking on the banner at any time. This page contains all the banners and clicking on them will take you to the frontpage using this banner and its stylesheet.

So, please let me know which looks you like, which you don't, etc. If there are any that really suck or are hard to read, let me know. Let me know about any other problems or quibbles or suggestions. Anything else you'd like to see? Want me to add a feed to the sidebar with the current music I play on Winamp, or the movies I'm watching, or something like that? What do you want (besides the number of comments being listed on the LJ page)?

Get whatever you need to making posting in LJ easier... Not to say I'm lazy, but well, I'm lazy, and just don't want to have to check multiple websites. I mean, today it's just you, but what if everyone leaves LiveJournal...what then? I have to think about the future, you know.

Also, the sun rising over the dead sea one is hard to read...

Alright, Cara. I darkened up the sunrise background, which I assume was the problem. If it's still hard to read then your monitor settings are way off.

Oh, and by the way, my site has a syndicated feed at http://www.barzelay.net/index.rdf. If you have a paid LJ account, you can add this to your friends page by going to http://www.livejournal.com/syn/. However, as long as I'm still posting to Livejournal as well, you'll get double posts.
