Another funny thing about the car purchase... Mom and Dad decided to put the financing in my and my father's names, in order to start building up my credit. Well, when they ran my credit, I was able to list my employment as with Nat'l Instruments making $3100/month (more than my Dad makes). It turns out that I actually had a pretty good credit rating. The reason? I signed up for a CapitalOne card several years ago because it came with a free magazine subscription. I put $29 on it and paid it off the same week and canceled the card. Because I've always made all my payments on time (one) I have pretty good credit. Ha!

Yeah, turns out I had good credit when I bought my first car. I was really nervous, because I had heard horror stories about young people having no credit, and my parents weren't willing to cosign.
But I had good credit, based on a credit card that some tellemarketer succkered me into. I had never activated it, and obviously hadn't used it. But I'd had it for 4 years in good standing. I didn't even think it would have shown up, because I never activated it, and never recieved statements or anything from them.
